Earn the GRI Designation

Bring your career to a new level
In today’s competitive business environment you need more than just motivation and initiative to succeed, you need the advantage of the education you receive in the GRI program.

The Graduate REALTOR Institute (GRI) designation indicates to buyers, sellers and other real estate industry professionals that you have made the commitment to provide a high level of professional service to your clients by securing a strong educational foundation.

The GRI designation is obtained by attending a comprehensive series of courses. The subject matter has been designed to educate practitioners about local, state and national real estate practices that affect them and their clients.

The following nine GRI courses are required for the designation.
  • RI401 - Effective Real Estate Practices -Skills to Put You on Top
  • RI402 - Real Estate Legal Issues - Not Knowing Can Be Dangerous
  • RI403 - Financing to Increase Homeownership
  • RI404 - Serving Real Estate Investors
  • RI405 - Construction & Environmental Issues
  • RI406 - Price it Right - Understanding the Appraisal Process
  • RI407 - Building Your Real Estate Practice
  • RI408 - Real Estate Service Strategies in the Information Age
  • RI409 - Equal and Ethical Service for Today's Consumer

Use your experience
You may test-out of two GRI courses by taking challenge exams. Register at the same tuition rate, study the participant’s guide and take the exam at your local board. If you don’t pass, attend the next class – free.

Use previous course work
Send your official course transcript to NYSAR’s Education Department with a $25 fee. We will determine if any previous course work applies toward your GRI designation. (Examples are: college-level real estate courses and other NAR or affiliate designation courses).
